Gunfire at Kapil Sharma’s Café in Canada
Authorities have yet to determine whether the attack was intended as a direct threat to Kapil Sharma himself or merely targeted the café business.
Kapil Sharma’s comedy chat show The Kapil Sharma Show, which aired on Sony LIV, has captivated audiences across the globe for over nine years. With time, his popularity has only grown, leading to his show’s expansion to global streaming platforms. Recently, Sharma launched The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix, with Season 3 airing since 21 June.
Apart from his television success, Kapil Sharma recently ventured into business in Vancouver, Canada, where he opened a new café named “Kap's Café.” The café, managed full-time by his wife Ginni Chatrath, became the site of a shocking incident on the morning of 9 July.
According to reports, a group of unidentified assailants arrived in a vehicle and opened fire at the café shortly after it opened for the day. The gunfire shattered the café’s glass windows and left bullet marks on nearby buildings. Preliminary investigations indicate that a total of nine shots were fired targeting the premises.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. However, the incident has taken a serious turn after Harjit Singh Laddi, a known member of the Khalistani extremist outfit Babbar Khalsa International, claimed responsibility. Laddi is currently listed as wanted by Indian investigative agencies.
In response to the shooting, Canadian forensic teams swiftly reached the scene. Investigators collected CCTV footage, video evidence, and ballistic samples from the café and its surroundings.
Authorities have yet to determine whether the attack was intended as a direct threat to Kapil Sharma himself or merely targeted the café business.
As of now, neither Kapil Sharma nor his wife has issued any public statement regarding the incident.
The Khalistani group claimed that Sharma had recently made remarks that they found objectionable. According to them, this attack served as a veiled warning — a message of disapproval delivered through violent means.
