‘Taandob’ Piracy Crackdown: Three Arrested Across Bangladesh
In a swift response to the online leak of the blockbuster film Taandob, police have arrested three individuals from different parts of the country. Authorities say the suspects had links to cinema halls and played key roles in distributing a pirated HD copy of the film.
Following the roaring success of Taandob, directed by Raihan Rafi and starring Shakib Khan, the film faced a major setback when a high-definition version was leaked on platforms like YouTube. The leak came amid record-breaking ticket sales and packed screenings nationwide.
Reacting quickly, producer Shahriar Shakil filed a complaint at Banani Police Station under the Copyright Act. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) then launched a coordinated operation, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Tipu Sultan from Noakhali, Sadi Sad from Mymensingh, and Sajedul Islam from Savar.
Tipu Sultan, identified as the main accused, was arrested Tuesday evening in Maijdee by the Noakhali DB police. He has reportedly confessed to distributing the pirated copy and is being transferred to Dhaka for legal proceedings.

Police confirmed that all three suspects had ties to cinema operations, raising suspicions of an inside job. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full piracy network and prevent future leaks.
Producer Shahriar Shakil commented, “We work hard to bring quality films to audiences, but piracy threatens the entire industry. If strong actions aren’t taken, it will be difficult for filmmakers to survive in this environment.”
He added that the swift police response has been encouraging, and he hopes this case will lead to stronger protections for creative work in the Bangladeshi film industry.
