Italian Prime Minister to visit Dhaka 30 August, migration to be key focus

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is set to arrive in Dhaka on 30 August for a two-day official visit, with migration issues expected to receive special emphasis during the talks.
Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have confirmed that Prime Minister Meloni’s visit is scheduled for August 30. This will mark the first visit by a top European leader to Bangladesh under the current caretaker government.
On August 31, she is expected to hold a formal meeting with the Chief Adviser of the interim government.
According to sources, a preparatory inter-ministerial meeting regarding the proposed visit was held on Sunday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chaired by Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam.
A senior foreign ministry official noted that significant progress may be achieved on the issue of migration during the visit. In addition to migration, discussions are also expected to cover bilateral relations, trade and commerce, defense cooperation, and other areas of mutual interest.
