Shimul Khan Wins Best Villain at TRAB Excellent Awards 2025
I have always considered the TRAB Excellent Award, organized by esteemed journalists of the country, to be a very prestigious recognition. So, after being nominated as Best Villain this year,
Despite having acted in over fifty Dhallywood films in his decade-long acting career, and having had many opportunities to receive awards, Shimul Khan had always kept himself away from both awards and politics. However, this time, he couldn’t stay away from the "TRAB Excellent Awards 2025." The grand event was held on September 20 at 5 PM at the Jahurul Haque Hall auditorium of the National Press Club, organized by the Television Reporters Association of Bangladesh (TRAB), marking its 25th edition.
At the glittering ceremony, various individuals were honored for their contributions to the fields of culture, entertainment, and media. In the acting category, the awards for Best Actor and Actress in television went to renowned actor Mosharraf Karim and actress Tanha Tasnia, respectively. In the film category, actor Md. Matiur Rahman (Shimul Khan) received the Best Villain award for his outstanding performance in the film Dark World, directed by National Film Award-winning director Mostafizur Rahman Manik.
Regarding his long-standing decision to avoid awards, Shimul Khan said, “It’s unfortunate but true that in Bangladesh, award shows are held almost every month — even daily — like food stalls on every street corner. In my personal opinion, most of these are meaningless, baseless, and lack quality. I have always wanted to receive only prestigious, credible, and quality awards that would truly inspire me in my acting career. That’s why I have consciously and voluntarily stayed away from many award opportunities until now.
But I have always considered the TRAB Excellent Award, organized by esteemed journalists of the country, to be a very prestigious recognition. So, after being nominated as Best Villain this year, I was eagerly waiting to receive this award. My heartfelt thanks, gratitude, and love to the Television Reporters Association of Bangladesh (TRAB).”
It is worth mentioning that Shimul Khan’s new film Swopne Dekha Rajkonna (The Princess from Dreams) is set to be released nationwide, including in Dhaka, on October 26 on the occasion of Durga Puja.
In addition, several films featuring Shimul Khan are awaiting release after receiving censor board approval. These include: Amimangshito by Raihan Rafi, Ibrahim by Prince A.R., Romeo Rongbaaz by Sayem Zafar Imam, Soulmate by Bappy Khan, and the much-talked-about Panic by talented new director Zahid Jewel.
Finally, Shimul Khan revealed an exciting update: he will soon be actively involved in not only acting but also film production and hosting celebrity shows on a regular basis.
