Journalist Slaughtered After Going Live About Extortion
The incident occurred around 8 PM on Thursday in front of Masjid Market at the busy Chandna Chowrasta area of the city. At the time of the attack, the journalist was sitting at a tea stall.
A journalist named Asaduzzaman Tuhin (38) was hacked and had his throat slit by miscreants after going live about extortion in Gazipur. The incident occurred around 8 PM on Thursday in front of Masjid Market at the busy Chandna Chowrasta area of the city. At the time of the attack, the journalist was sitting at a tea stall.
The deceased, Asaduzzaman Tuhin, was working as a staff reporter for the daily Protidiner Kagoj newspaper in Gazipur. He was the son of Hasan Jamal from Bhatipara village in Fulbaria police station, Mymensingh. Tuhin lived with his family in the Chandna Chowrasta area.
Locals reported that on Thursday afternoon, Tuhin had gone live on Facebook regarding extortion involving illegal roadside shops in the Chandna Chowrasta area. Later, around 8 PM, he posted a video on his Facebook with the caption, “Scenes of crossing roads as people wish.” Afterward, he was drinking tea at a stall in front of Masjid Market when a group of assailants suddenly surrounded him and brutally hacked and slit his throat in public with sharp weapons.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Basan Police Station, Shaheen Khan, said: “Upon receiving the news, police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. Efforts are ongoing to determine who committed the murder and why. Police have launched an operation to catch the killers.”
