The jet took off around 1:06 pm and crashed some 24 minutes later.
The Bangladesh sports community is in deep mourning following Monday's tragic air crash at Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara, where a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 training jet crashed into a three-storey school building, killing at least one person and injuring over 100, including numerous students.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expressed its profound grief, offering prayers and condolences to the bereaved families and injured victims.
“A harrowing event,” the board called it, as the nation reels from the shock.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Tabith Awal also conveyed sorrow: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic incident. We pray for the forgiveness of those students who lost their lives and wish quick recovery for all who were injured.”
Former national captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza shared a heartfelt prayer in a social media post:
“The horrific crash in Uttara and the tragedy at Milestone School and College have shaken us all deeply. There are no words to express our sorrow and sympathy for the families of those who lost their lives. I pray for the swift recovery of all those injured.
Let us all come together in prayer during this difficult time — O Allah, protect everyone and keep us safe from such disasters. Ameen.”
Tamim Iqbal also posted emotionally, urging sensitivity in media coverage:
“Our hearts are breaking—we are devastated. I request all media, especially television and digital outlets, not to air graphic footage of the wounded children. If such content is shown, please blur the images. They are our children. All our prayers are with them.”
The jet took off around 1:06 pm and crashed some 24 minutes later.
Fire and rescue teams rushed to the scene, evacuating victims—many suffering from severe burns. The Bangladesh Air Force has launched an investigation.
