Nidrasur": A Tale of Sleeplessness Brought to Screen
On returning to the short film format, Bayati said, “Filmmaking is my true calling. I began my career with short films, and returning to this format after a long time has been incredibly fulfilling. Alongside feature films, I want to continue making shorts — to tell real human stories that matter.”
Sleep — peaceful, uninterrupted sleep — is something people strive for. Yet, for many, restful sleep remains elusive due to various physical and mental struggles, leading to a life of distress and hardship. Inspired by the story of one such sleepless individual, the short film "Nidrasur" (English title: Sweet Sleep) has been brought to life on screen.
The lead role of the sleepless man is portrayed by actor Omar Malik. The film also features performances by Runa Khan, Md. Iqbal Hossain, Sanchita Dutta, Ashiq Sarkar, and Kakon Chowdhury.
Speaking about his involvement, Omar Malik said, “I’ve known the director Bayati for quite some time and have always admired his work. We’ve talked about collaborating many times, but it never quite happened — until now. The story of 'Nidrasur' touched me deeply, and despite many challenges, I was determined to see it through. I’m hopeful that the film will resonate with audiences and make its mark in both local and international film festivals.”
Nidrasur is based on a story by Jahangir Hossain Apon and directed by Sohel Rana Bayati — a filmmaker who previously made headlines with Noya Manush.
On returning to the short film format, Sohel Rana Bayati said, “Filmmaking is my true calling. I began my career with short films, and returning to this format after a long time has been incredibly fulfilling. Alongside feature films, I want to continue making shorts — to tell real human stories that matter.”
The film, produced by Sensore, has completed the necessary clearance and official procedures, and is now preparing for entry into both domestic and international film festivals.
