According to party sources, the incident occurred around 8:30pm on the Samir Uddin Smriti College premises while Faisal was leaving the council venue following the announcement of results.
The list of alleged encroachers includes former Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) mayor Mohammad Manjur Alam, his nephew and former member of parliament Didarul Alam, former CCC councillor Nisar Uddin Ahmed Manju, Abu Hashem, and several others.
The deceased were identified as Bahar Uddin Banu, 30, the auto-rickshaw driver, and Atika Akhter, 15, a passenger.
One of the protest organisers told journalists that in 2016, the then fascist Awami League government brought 26 unions in Dhaka district inside the city, thereby shrinking the driving space for CNG-run autorickshaws registered with the district.
