BNP has suspended Fazlur Rahman from all levels of the party for three months over his unsatisfactory response regarding derogatory remarks against the spirit of the July uprising.
In a sacking letter, BNP said, “You are a freedom fighter and contributed a lot to the country’s independence during the Liberation War. Considering the contribution, BNP, without taking strict organisational measures, just suspended you from all your party positions, including the primary membership, for three months.”
From now on, you should remain alert while speaking on talk shows or any social media to ensure that neither the dignity of the party nor that of the country and the religious sentiment of the people is tarnished, according to the letter.
Earlier on 24 August, Fazlur Rahman, adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, was served a show cause notice on the allegation of giving ‘absurd and unruly’ statements.
The party has given him 24 hours to explain as to why the party should not take organisational action against him, who has long been a subject of discussion on social media due to his various statements relating to the July mass uprising.

In response to a question about whether he would file a General Diary (GD) under the circumstances, he said, “I will not file a GD even if they try to kill me… I will not do any GD or anything like that.”
